Our reviews are based on an annual survey of ordinary diners which runs in Spring each year. But this establishment has not yet gathered enough feedback for our editors to write it up.

Do you think it deserves to be better known?

Write a quick review now using our restaurant diary service. That way it might catch our attention. Next survey, you can transfer your diary entry into our survey system. Everyone who contributes 5 or more reviews in our survey will qualify for a free guide.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"What an amazing evening my wife and I enjoyed at Chartwell @ Aldwark Manor. From entering the most amazingly decorated restaurant to enjoying a subline taster menu to the wine flight and all served by an informative and entertaining team. The TV showing what is happening in the kitchen was very clever too. We will definitely be looking to book the private dining area for one of our birthdays next."

"Recently I was lucky enough to enjoy Chartwell's VIP dining with a very classy private bar for pre dinner drinks with friends. Food was inventive and tasty with 2 or 3 standout courses and some wow factor presentation in the strawberry sweet course. Excellant wine and champagne recommendations available from the sommelier"

"What a fabulous place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was amazing, each course presented perfectly. We go to many fine dining restaurants and put Chartwells firmly at the top of our list. We could not fault the whole evening from the restaurant to the beautiful bedrooms. We will be back in the very near future."

"We had the great pleasure of dining at Chartwells and WOW, what an amazing addition to regional foodie establishments. Whilst the dining environment in brand new, it doesn't feel it. Plush and lavish interior, that feels intimate and welcoming - unlike alot of fine dining establishments which are imposing, formal and stuffy. The food was exceptional, with the kitchen all too eager to please by changing a couple of dishes due to allergies. Every course was mouth watering and the crockery in which each course was served was quality. The theatre kitchen with a twist was great to watch as the team prepared the meals. Service was very efficient, as you'd expect with fine dining; though each of the waiting team members were engaging, friendly and all too eager to please. We'd highly recommend a visit as this place is something special - and make sure to find the secret room!"

"We had the pleasure of eating here and the tasting menu was superb in every respect. Sometimes with tasting menus there are courses that are not to one’s taste, but in this case I thoroughly enjoyed every course. Well done to the whole team , from the kitchen to the waiting team. Faultless from start to finish and highly recommended"
