Harden's survey result
Summary
Run by husband-and-wife team Charlie (who worked at Heston Blumenthal‘s Hinds Head pub in Bray) & Arantxa, this upscale high street tapas spot is “still the buzziest place hereabouts”. There are some quibbles in reports (“the food has lost its edge a little”) but also praise for some “super” dishes, ranging from their signature acorn-fed 100% Iberian pork, to the rather ingenious ‘Patatas Invisibles’ (“invisible chips”), which have zero calories and are essentially a £4.50 charitable donation to Hospitality Action.
Summary
“Refined” and “interesting” tapas (“the Iberico pork is the best thing on the menu”) married with creative cocktails and sherries are the hallmark of this high street three-year-old, from a duo with Heston B pedigree. Amongst a high volume of reports in our annual diners’ poll, it attracted the odd critic this year (“the menu could do with changing”), but even they “simply loved the fact that there is a buzzing, good Spanish restaurant in the locale – a rare treat in this neck of the woods (which is why it is always full!)”.
Summary
This “stylish and buzzing local” serves good-quality tapas and other Hispanic dishes “that wouldn’t look out of place in London”, making it a “very welcome addition to the Amersham scene”. “The food is great (the Iberico pork is amazing), cocktails are really innovative and service is top-notch”. It was launched two years ago in a former high street Chinese take-away by experienced hospitality professionals Charlie Baxter and Arantxa Fuentes (ex-Heston B’s Hind’s Head).
Summary
Bringing a “breath of fresh air to Old Amersham dining”, a “stylish, friendly, buzzing” newcomer where “you could almost think you were in London”. It's run by husband-and-wife team Charlie (ex-of Heston B’s Hind’s Head restaurant) and Arantxa, who specialise in “superb” Spanish tapas, and have built up a solid following since opening in 2020.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
