Harden's survey result
Summary
“Wow, this is indeed a find if you can stomach the drive over the highest road in the British Isles” – a sentiment felt for more than a century for this far-flung destination, which was recommended as the ‘Temperance Hotel’ in the 1911 Michelin Guide. Owned and run by the redoutable Judith Fish for more than 30 years, it’s noted these days for excellent local seafood and drinks including beer from the Applecross Brewery. Top Menu Tip – “the scallops are to die for”.
Summary
“A little bit of Heaven”, dropped beside the sea in the West Highlands: “the best seafood, some of the best views, a wonderful selection of drams, and simply a great pub” – this famous and remote destination made its debut (as the Temperance Hotel) in the 1911 Michelin Guide, and is still worth the detour. Top Tip – “always, always have the scallops”.
Summary
Long a well-known destination for those in search of top-class seafood in a remote location – “even with the restrictions this place still delivers, and it now has a new outdoor area with the same spectacular views”. (It’s also the perfect place to sample the new Applecross Brewing Company’s beers, dreamed up by a group of locals in the Inn’s bar.)
Summary
“A mission to get to but oh so worth it!” – this “busy inn on the Applecross peninsula” is “an amazing spot with a great welcome” serving “dependably top-notch fresh seafood”. Our worst report last year? – “the food’s perfectly acceptable and the service and atmosphere made for an enjoyable evening”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Applecross Inn Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Very friendly team welcome you and the atmosphere is warm and cheerful. There is a fairly extensive menu catering for all tastes with a serious selection focussing on fish. A decent wines list with most of the wines being available by the glass. The portion sizes are quite generous. The scallops I had for a main course were perfectly cooked and served with their coral. Great selection of tables outside beside the waters edge with food served from a van that works with the inn. "
