“Impeccable!”“Adam Smith has definitely added the wow factor to what was formerly the Restaurant Coworth Park” and with the Dorchester Collection’s 2023 revamp of this mansion’s main dining room – replacing its formerly bland international luxe looks with very successful, “subtle but stylish” surroundings – it is fully emerging as one of the south east’s foremost gastronomic destinations (“surely it must be heading for two Michelin stars”). “Several snacks lead into the hospitality masterclass which Adam and his team, including front of house, achieve at each visit”. “Bread is not just a side issue but a course in itself and something to be savoured” and is followed up by “exciting dishes realised with flair” and “a fantastic lightness of touch”; all “superbly presented” by the “smiling, thoughtful, nattily dressed staff”. And “the cheese room is an experience in itself”. “The best meal we have had in a long time”: “pricing has gone up quite significantly” but no-one complains about this – they say it’s “still worth it as the food is phenomenal”. “Gorgeous grounds to wander around too”.

“An amazing new dining room! The experience from start to finish is personal, thought provoking and the cooking is inspired. a true destination!” – so say fans of the revamp of the “well appointed” flagship dining room at this Dorchester Collection property, where a new contemporary look has brought the decor much more into line with the quality of chef Adam Smith’s cuisine. Reports acclaim both its “exceptional food and dining experience on a consistent basis”. You choose from a five-course menu for £145 per person.

Revamped and relaunched in September 2022 under this new stand-alone identity, the flagship dining room at the Dorchester Collection’s 240 acre estate near Virginia Water still sits at the heart of the property and is still overseen by acclaimed chef, Adam Smith. It has been an open secret for years that the former design of the dining room didn’t do justice to the setting, which the new space created by Martin Hulbert Design aims to put right. There’s a new locally focused menu too. According to the press release: “inspiration from the idyllic landscape, will be woven [geddit? Ed] into the menus, and the dishes, whilst refined, will be presented in playful and contemporary ways”. Over the years, Adam Smith’s cuisine has been steadily acclaimed here in our diners’ poll – perhaps even more so in future? Top Tip – in the lounges, Adam also oversees “lovely afternoon tea: traditional and reasonably priced too compared to some hotels in central London!”

The Dorchester Collection’s Ascot outpost, near Virginia Water, sits in 240 acres complete with polo pitches, a spa, a cheaper brasserie (the Barn) and the recently added ‘North Lodge’. In the mansion’s main dining room, Adam Smith’s high-quality cuisine is long on luxury, and wins solid ratings again this year.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"99% Arrived at the stunning venue and were greeted by staff. Taken to our table and sat down. Ordered our drinks, soon arrived one right one wrong, superb seedlip rapidly replaced. We ordered our food, and then the sublime experience started. The first four amuse bouche were very varied, one nice two delicious and an eel dish that was possibly one of the finest flavours I have ever tasted! The five different breads and three dips with superb butter came next. Then our starters, it's hard to say which was better, both superb. Mains, my favourite Wagyu, so soft and tasty and a lamb dish equally tasty. The palate cleaner was pitched perfectly to do it's role. Desserts were amazingly tasty. We had Hawaiian Kona coffee, last time I had that was in Hawaii almost 12 years ago. They supplied us with four different petit fours, each very different but all superb The whole experience was one of the best we have had as I now arrive at 120 Michelin stars. Toilets spotless and frankly about the size of the downstairs of my house. Only disappointment.... Adam is one of food's great innovators and an exceptional talent with some of the best flavours and presentation we have ever seen. I have in the past met many of the chefs and loved the experience. We arranged before coming to meet Adam at the end of our meal, and were assurred it was all arranged, when we asked at the end of the meal, the agreed time, we were told he had left 30 minutes earlier for an industry meeting, really sad he couldn't take 1 minute just to pop out or if busy ask us to pop into the kitchen for a moment, must confess the only real disappointment in an otherwise perfect experience. Shame."
