Harden's survey result
Summary
“The team is small but work incredibly hard to create beautifully presented dishes that always hit the spot” at this “lovely pub” between the Chilterns and the Cotswolds, where Matt Gill’s cuisine provides “excellent food” from an à la carte menu that, while “rustic”, bears no relation to pub grub.
Summary
Having done time at top restaurants St John and the Hand & Flowers, head chef Matt Gill has returned home for his first solo venture – a “great local gastropub” with rooms, in a rambling seventeenth-century building where “one almost feels at home”. Its “traditional bar menu”, much of which is sourced on-site, is “definitely worth searching out”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
