Harden's survey result
Summary
There’s a “fantastic range of vegetarian treats” at this “great value” Indian – part of the Sachdev family business that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The café, near Manchester’s IKEA, moved into its own site opposite the family’s ASM cash-and-carry grocery a couple of years ago. (It’s named after founder PG Sachdev’s wife Lilawati, who hand-made treats to sell in the early days of the business.)
Summary
As of January 2019, this unexpected gem – a café in the shadow of a vast IKEA – has “moved to new premises across the road from the terrific Indian wholesale supermarket they are connected to, and everything is a bit snazzier”, bedecked in bells, kite spools and bangles. These days “you could go for supper rather than just catching a quick nosh” and while “the range of sweetmeats looks bigger, everything else is the same” (namely a huge variety of veggie fare “from street snacks to fusion to more familiar Indian meals”…“hoorah!”).
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
