Harden's says

Opening June 2024, in the Cotswold village of Barnsley, the first pub from the shabby-chic Pig hotel group, which has taken over boutique hotel Barnsley House across the road (also opening summer 2024). The food is a pubby version of the Pig formula, with a hearty menu based around locally sourced ingredients, served in rustic comfort.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Only two things not to like here. The decor is a modern take on the classic comforting pub interior, tastefully executed. Welcoming, familiar but contemporary. Food was recognisably "pub" but in the way that you'd imagine a Victorian gentleman would be very happy with if he'd stopped at an inn on his travels. My sister had to seek out the chef so that she could try to replicate when she got home the beetroot & seeds with yogurt that she had for starter...."one of the best things I've eaten in a long time". My pork chop was meaty, substantial with a highly sophisticated brandy sauce and my Dad and my son, both Ox Cheek virgins, loved the rich, melt in your mouth version on offer here. Super friendly service - in fact excellent service from all the staff, decent range of beers and a good wine list. Two things not to like: (1) my Dad complained that the chairs were a bit rickety (trying to hard for that old world pub feel) (2) What's with the name you people at Pig? This place apparently used to be called The Boot. That's a proper pub name. "The Village Pub" just sounds like it's been taken over by the Barnsley Parish Council and run by a committee of local worthies. Change it back to The Boot. Other than that, perfect!"
