Harden's says

It’s a case of "Back to the Future" at this beautifully situated site on the front, which operated here under the Due South name from 2004-2011 before becoming Riddle & Finns on the Beach. Now owner Rob Shenton has decided to return to its former branding having moved Riddle & Finns on the Beach to a new location nearby.

Rob Shenton’s recent switch-up of his local mini-empire – moving Champagne and oyster joint Riddle & Finns On the Beach, which long sat here on the front, to a new site, and returning to the former branding of this outfit – did cause a few waves, but marks and comments were relatively solid this year. There’s a “lovely view if you can get a table by the window” and the food, which favours the nose-to-tail ethos and cooking over wood, is “delicious”.

It has a “lovely setting” on the front, but Rob Shenton’s well-known venue has yet to reestablish itself fully since he decided last year to restore its branding of ten years ago (and to move Riddle & Finns On the Beach – his operation here since 2011 – to a new site). On limited feedback, some locals do rave all-round: others say “it’s not what it used to be – the food’s nicely cooked, but not good value for money”.

Summary

It’s a case of ‘Back to the Future’ at this beautifully situated site on the front, which operated here under the Due South name from 2004-2011, before becoming Riddle & Finns on the Beach. In May 2021, owner Rob Shenton decided to return to its former branding, having moved Riddle & Finns on the Beach to a new location nearby. No reports of the new, er old, regime as yet.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
