Breaking news

July 2022: The company behind Shelter Hall is opening a venue called Sessions in London’s Islington next month, featuring four outlets at a time, from a rotating roster of chefs.

Harden's says

Close to the British Airways i360 observation tower, a new seafront food hall with up to 10 independent outlets (all offering a COVID-19 safe experience in the huge hall). The refurbished Shelter Hall is a larger version of the original, which dates from the 1880s, with a new rotunda and sea wall. The team behind Riddle and Finns are taking the rotunda space, and the food hall will be run by Sessions Market.

“If you are happy with a food hall for your meal, then this is a good (but very popular) option” – this year-old venue has a “great location” on the seafront and features seven street-food concepts at a time. In her July 2022 visit, The Guardian’s Grace Dent was also wowed: “The food, with each delivery by a chipper server, continued to be far better than a food hall ever tends to be… we left Shelter Hall jubilant, £60 down for lunch for three people with drinks”.

Close to the British Airways i360 observation tower, Brighton’s brand-new seafront food hall has launched in a restored Victorian building with a line-up of seven self-service eateries led by Sussex chefs, plus craft beer, wine and cocktail bars. Of particular note: Pan, from high-end chicken shop Lost Boys; Worthing golden boy Kenny Tutt's Ox Block for a Robata grill experience; and Brighton favourites VIP Pizza. The outdoor terrace is a real winner, too.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
