Harden's survey result
Summary
This “amazing neighbourhood restaurant will have you coming back for more” of its “brilliant modern British cooking in a relaxed bistro setting”. Founded five years ago by a trio of local hospitality veterans, Rob Maynard and James & Faye Thompson, it is “very much in tune with modern Hove, but in a very unprepossessing location” – and with “very sensible prices”, including a £22 per person set menu that runs alongside the à la carte. Many diners recommend the wines here (“one of the rare restaurants which do not force you to ‘kill’ red wine too young, offering good mature reds for fair prices”).
Summary
Well established as “a real favourite” since launching in 2019, “what it does – modern British cooking in a relaxed bistro setting – it does brilliantly”, while “the wine list brings it a cut above many other locals. Rob (Maynard, co-founder with James & Faye Thomson) seems to find amazing different things to drink”. Top Menu Tip – “don’t miss out on side orders: blue cheese and leek gratin and pommes Anna are both amazing”.
Summary
This three-year-old bistro “has made a huge impression on the Hove scene” with the “quality and inventiveness of its food”, an “excellent and surprising wine list” and “impeccable service” led by founders James & Faye Thomson and Rob Maynard. “Proud to have Wild Flor in our ’hood!”.
Summary
“A good alternative to The Gingerman” (and featuring some of their staff), this “pricey but stand-out” two-year-old bistro is “simply the best neighbourhood restaurant you could wish for”; in addition to the “interesting” seasonal dishes, the wine list generates particular excitement – “there are longer ones for sure but few pack in so much variety. It's a list written for wine lovers and sommelier Rob will guide you to a great bottle”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
