Harden's survey result
Summary
A restaurant of two halves partly inspired by Kiwi chef Stephen Gilchrist's home country of New Zealand, and also featuring an adjoining Argentinian tapas bar with counter-style seating – both highly regarded for their unusual combinations and accent on foraging. Only the latter, Chandos Social @ Otira, was open as of October 2021 – and offering tapas menus to share per couple – so do check ahead before you visit.
Summary
“You can choose between full meal or tapas” at this white-walled (slightly “stark”) two-year-old run by Kiwi Stephen Gilchrist and Devon-born Kathryn Curtis, which is split between a NZ-inspired restaurant and ‘Argentinian Tapas Bar’ (Chandos Social @ Otira). The smaller plates are “highly original and so delicious” and the well-rated more adventurous fare features “interesting combinations of sometimes-foraged food, from a limited but frequently changing menu”. “Friendly and efficient” service completes the picture.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
