“Fresh-off-the-boat fish is supplied by local fishmonger Jason” and “imaginatively, even exotically, cooked” at this Mediterranean sharing-plates bistro (est. 2021), whose other virtues include a “joyous bar to dine at” and “a few outdoor tables which are quite sheltered” (plus have views over Viking Bay). The “consistently good service is overseen by Sarah Kebbels”, who here makes her first – very successful – foray into the restaurant world alongside husband Richard.

“Primarily a fish restaurant, but one with excellent vegetarian and vegan options, and weekend brunches, all with a Mediterranean vibe, from Michelin-trained chef Craig Mather”: one reporter neatly summarises the virtues of this “reasonably priced” and “laidback” bistro, of recent vintage; sit on the sunny terrace for “al fresco dining with views across Viking Bay”.

This “terrific seafood” bistro with a full-length bar for informal eating makes a “great addition to Broadstairs”. It has views over Viking Bay, Charles Dickens’s favourite holiday spot (Betsey Trotwood’s cottage from ‘Great Expectations’ just around the corner is now a museum).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
