Despite its out-of-the-way location on Mill Road, Holly & Dan Fancett’s “lovely, local French-style brasserie” is one of the most commented-on destinations in the city in our annual diners’ poll. Why? Especially in this still patchily served varsity town, it’s “fairly priced”, serves “very good food”, has an “intimate” atmosphere and provides “very personal attention to customers”.

Holly & Dan Fancett’s “fantastic, French-influenced bistro” is “going from strength to strength” after two years in business (the pair previously ran the North Street Bistro on the North Norfolk coast). The “small, intimate” venue is particularly of note for its “excellent set-price lunch menu” (dinner is also a two- or three-course prix fixe) and service is just as “excellent” too.

“A brilliant new restaurant in Cambridge” – Holly & Dan Fancett upped sticks from North Street in Burnham Market to launch this outlying yearling on Mill Road in late 2021. “The food from the small but perfectly formed menu gets better each time”, according to fans. It’s not a case of bewildering tasting menus with dazzling small plates, but very yummy, deftly realised bistro fare at un-scary prices and “wonderful” service.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"excellent meal in the private room, we were guests. Very well looked after with ample portions, well judged cooking. Lasagne, cote de boef, all delicious. "
