A “real bright light in an otherwise scrappy pedestrian high street”, this polished and “very well-run” hotel dining room takes the original name of the hotel that stood here back in 1892 and brings a rare fine dining option to the centre of Canterbury; add in “wonderful” cocktails, and it’s “a treat” for its many local fans.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Special birthday lunch for family. A range of dietary needs had to be covered and these were well managed. Allocated the ‘wine room’ it was a great setting, space for small ones to have some chill time between courses. Portions were good, nobody felt stuffed though! A minor issue was readily dealt with. Service was friendly and efficient with constant checking that all was well."

"No longer 'fine dining' but more 'fun dining'. Tapas style menu served tapas style ie when the dishes are ready. The dishes are tapas based on dishes from various countries in the world, for example trio of mini burgers, aubergine tangine, apple & rhubarb crumble. Tasty dishes. Restaurant seems to be busier with this tapas format which is a good thing."
