Summary
There’s “always a cheery welcome and super-courteous service at this distinctive and cut-above restaurant” from ex-Oberoi/Cinnamon Club chef-patron Awanish Roy – the first in a now two-strong chain, with a younger spin-off in Reigate. Its “sophisticated and delicate culinary style” is “superior to any other Indian restaurants in the area”, showcased in everything from the “tiny” and “delicious” poppadoms to “tender and flavoursome” chef’s specials, which feature on a menu spanning street food, British favourites and far more exotic fare (grilled guinea fowl, say, or wild boar vindaloo).
Summary
This haute Indian, in the Surrey ‘burbs (there’s also a Reigate sibling) was set up by ex-Oberoi/Cinnamon Club chef-patron Awanish Roy; it offers “a different Indian meal experience”, with the “lovely” food sampling Goan seafood specialities, or game from the Karnataka region, alongside more trad Punjabi dishes.
Summary
“A must visit” – this “high-end Indian restaurant” in the Surrey suburbs (with a sibling in Reigate) from ex-Oberoi and Cinnamon Club chef-patron Awanish Roy creates “very different” flavours that are “innovative, delicate and amazing”. “The courteous staff are fabulous, and the prices are actually very reasonable for this quality of food” – in what is emphatically “not your typical curry house”.
Summary
The “fantastic innovative menu” from chef-patron Awanish Roy (ex-Oberoi and Cinnamon Club) elevates this suburban Surrey venue to the status of “true Indian fine-dining”. “This isn’t a generic Bangladeshi but a real Indian restaurant – in the most unlikely place, off a roundabout on the A3”. The “great food” includes a significant number of game dishes, including wild boar, venison and guinea fowl. There’s now a spinoff in Reigate.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Saffron Summer Restaurant Diner Reviews
"We started with papadums and 3 homemade chutneys. These were delicious. The papadums are tiny and you have your own little plate of them. For the main course I had the Chef’s Signature Kabuli Gosht. This was smoked rump of Romney lamb, spiced lamb mince & green peas served with a chickpea sauce. The lamb was tender and flavoursome and the spiced lamb mince beautifully flavoured. My partner has the lamb Rogan Josh. She was equally impressed with the curry. All were obviously freshly made and to a high quality. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. "
