“Superb, proper Indian food” that’s “remarkable value for money” has made the name of this red-brick subcontinental, “handy for the Witterings and Chichester”. The venue, a converted pub, was launched by couple Mayank and Nita Gupta (orthopaedic surgeon and dental surgeon respectively) as a riposte to inauthentic British curry houses, and offers a wide programme of events ranging from Elvis tribute nights with ‘curated’ curries, to regular demonstrations of home cooking; there were also several shout-outs this year for the “reliably excellent friendly service”.

Mayank Gupta (orthopaedic surgeon) and wife Nita (dentist) set up this red-brick venture as a bastion against the dodgy provenance of some UK curry houses – and the “very good” curries (marked by “delicious spicing” and reasonable pricing) have made it a hit. Mayank also runs importer Wines In India, so why not skip the Kingfisher for something more adventurous to wash the food down?

“Fresh, traditional Indian food”“not your typical Bangladeshi-style ‘Indian’” – is the USP at this “high-quality” curry house set up by a couple of medics (orthopaedic surgeon Mayank Gupta and his dentist wife Nita) who wanted to showcase ‘food as it tastes in India’. There’s a second branch along the harbour in Apuldram.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
