Harden's survey result
Summary
This Grade II-listed former coaching inn incorporates fourteenth-century Whitehough Hall, whose dining room with a minstrels’ gallery provides a medieval setting for the “excellent food” served here. Former banker Daniel Capper took over the running of his childhood home when a leaseholder failed.
Summary
This atmospheric sixteenth-century inn serves “good quality pub food for a small village” in a remote part of the Peak District. It’s under the same ownership as the Paper Mill Inn opposite (which serves pizzas) – and guests are welcome to carry their drinks from one to the other. They also offer accommodation.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
