Aizle chef-patron Stuart Ralston’s third Edinburgh restaurant (he’s since launched fine-diner Lyla) is a bright and airy first-floor New Town spot with striking pale wood décor and “great Italian food” by absolutely all accounts. Conjuring up worrying visions, William Sitwell in The Telegraph’s January 2024 review praised the venue for “snacks I’d run naked through a howling gale for”, but their small plates also attract plenty of attention (and are rounded out by seriously good homemade pasta).

High marks in early feedback suggest a positive start for this small plates newcomer from Noto and Aizle’s Jade Johnston and Stuart Ralston, on the site of The Perch (RIP). It’s a view supported by The Scotsman’s Gaby Soutar who, in her May 2023 review, hailed “a very appealing venue” (named for the grade of flour used to make the dishes) with excellent pasta and small plates that she termed “compulsive eating”, and an “elevated combination of dreams”: apparently, it has instantly become “part of [her] fantasy perfect day in the Capital”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
