With its “tranquil riverside setting”, this 18th-century watermill conversion – “a lovely building in a beautiful rural setting” – is “more than worth a visit any time of the year, but in the summer, dining outside in the lovely garden is a special treat”. It’s “owned and run by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona” (whose brother, Oliver Peyton is the figurehead of the family’s London catering business) and inspires a similar mix of opinions to former Peyton operations in the capital – to some “over-hyped with average service and food”, while others speak of “very good dishes”.

This “gorgeous pub/restaurant in a bucolic setting right next to a ford” was built as a watermill in the eighteenth century, became a pub in the nineteenth, and was taken over and spruced up in 2021 by Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton (sisters of well-known caterer Oliver). “More gastro than traditional pub”, it’s a “great destination” that’s “unique in Norfolk”“especially in the summer when you can sit in the sensational garden” and dine on “great seasonal cooking and very good pies”.

“A magical waterside setting, simple-but-good food and delightful service” have won praise for this “recently refurbished pub” in a converted watermill dating from 1757. Opened in summer 2021 by Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton, sisters of catering big-wig Oliver, its high-profile launch garnered national press attention, and the restaurant pleased most comers in its first year. On the other hand, even fans have found it “occasionally missing a beat” and some diners are cynical: “if a PR campaign could win an award this pub would have a display case full… lovely riverside premises, reasonable pub menu, but all fur coat and no knickers”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
