“A must if you’re in Falmouth” – this “hipsterish bar” from Penryn’s Verdant craft brewery “serves very hoppy cloudy beers and some seriously good seafood, in all its forms from raw to frittered”. “Knowledgeable staff” are on hand to help you pair tapas-size plates with the brews on offer. “The cheese fritters are also stunning, light but flavoursome and perfect with that edgy beer!”

“Great food, great beer, great staff – what’s not to like?” – Penryn-based Verdant craft brewery opened this tiny taproom just off the Falmouth seafront four years ago, matching their brews with a small-plates menu of French, Italian and more locally inspired seafood, ranging from fish balls and fish-finger butties to pan-fried gurnard with mussels and crab sauce.

For “brilliant, fresh seafood in a tiny side-street setting”, plus their own “amazing craft beer”, try this “great tapas bar” from craft brewers Adam and James. Their “really unusual menu” is “sort of tapas-style, and there are some lovely pudding offerings to finish it off”. You’ll find a younger sibling, The Sink Inn, in Newquay.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
