“Just keeps getting better… it’s gone from derelict petrol station to Airstream caravan selling ice cream to a shop and drive-thru where you can buy very local produce in the shop, and eat excellent rare-breed burgers” – this converted fuel stop was quoted in a 2023 Times article as being the type of local farm store that boosts rural property prices! “Outdoor seating in the meadow is on hand for fine days; there’s a yurt with log burner on cooler days together with a covered area with a fire pit”. “The quality is always excellent and the staff unfailingly friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they sell”. “Great coffee and pastries for early mornings… bigger breakfasts are also available”. Top Menu Tip – “The Kentucky Fried Pheasant always goes down well”.

This “innovative rustic drive-through” in a converted country petrol station offers “brilliant fresh food that packs flavour” – and boasts impeccable provenance: where else could you feast on burgers from shorthorn cattle or sausage rolls from rare-breed pigs reared and butchered on the property? There’s a meadow for picnics, a shop stuffed with produce from the farm, whose third-generation owners made the switch to sustainable regenerative agriculture 10 years ago – and “friendly service from enthusiastic young staff who are always smiling!”

The Wilson family’s farm shop and café in a converted petrol station has won a lot of friends since it launched eight years ago, and distinguished itself under the Covid restrictions by pivoting to a “rustic drive-through” that achieved good ratings for grub to scoff in the car or turn into a perfect picnic.

“An atmospheric and charming farm shop (in a converted petrol station, on the A419) serving fabulous breakfasts and lunches with very tasty hamburgers from local meat”. “It’s been great to see JN progress from offering ice cream from an airstream caravan to butcher, deli, burger bar, Xmas tree seller...” (is there anything they can’t do?!).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
