Malik Ahmed’s traditional but “exceptional” curry house has achieved consistently high ratings for more than 20 years. Part of a trio with siblings in Cookham and Marlow, it’s run hands-on by a family with 150 years in the business – the restaurant Malik’s great-great-grandfather founded in what is now Bangladesh is still going strong!

“Amazing food” (including a “great duck curry”) has earned this classy curry house a chorus-line of local celeb cheer-leaders, including Heston Blumenthal and Sir Ben Kingsley (of Gandhi fame). It has sister venues in Cookham and Marlow.

“Exceptional food and service” distinguish this “excellent Indian”, an offshoot of the well-known Cookham original (there’s a third branch in Marlow). It “tends to be more expensive than similar places”, but it’s “not at all your typical curry house” – most reporters are happy to pay a little extra for the “high-end aspirations, traditional-style white tablecloths”, and “best authentic kormas around”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
