A second branch of Crabshakk opened near the Botanic Gardens in April 2022.
Harden's survey result
Summary
The “truly exceptional food” at John Macleod’s year-old follow-up to his long-established hit seafood venue Crabshakk shows he can repeat the successful formula, with “the same excellent fish but in more refined surroundings than Finnieston”. The new site by the Botanic Gardens in the West End is a beautifully restored Art Deco garage from 1912, shared with Ka Pao (see also).
Summary
John Macleod’s late April 2022 newcomer – sibling to his popular Finnieston original – occupies the same beautiful, art deco Botanics garage building as Ka Pao (see also). It opened too late for feedback in our annual diners’ poll, but in a June 2022 visit, Rosalind Erskine for The Scotsman declared: “what made the first Crabshakk stand the test of time can be found here too – quality food, cooked well and served with a smile – making it easy to imagine it soon being as big a Glasgow institution as the original”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
