“The cooking is always reliably interesting” at this southeast Asian-inspired venue using mostly Scottish ingredients – from Jonathan MacDonald’s company Scoop (the people behind Ox and Finch and most recently Margo) – set in a beautifully restored century-old garage near the Botanic Gardens. There’s a spin-off branch in Edinburgh’s St James Quarter.

This fun venue by the Botanical Gardens “continues to be inventive with its pan-Asian fusion”, using mainly Scottish produce. “Fish dishes are made to order and brought to your table fresh from the kitchen”. Success has led to a second in Edinburgh’s St James’s Quarter.

Pan-Southeast Asian sharing dishes are on the menu at this Botanical Gardens spot that makes good use of Scotland’s natural larder with mashups such as ‘jungle curry of Shetland mussels and Ramiro pepper’. On limited feedback, the cooking is very highly rated. A sibling venue is scheduled to open this year in Edinburgh.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
