The brasserie option (see also Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall).
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Trying very hard in a fabulous location” – the traditionally decorated dining room is part of an impressive country-house hotel and spa – a 17th-century manor in the Yorkshire Dales relaunched with little expense spared five years ago (and the AA Hotel of the Year in 2022/23). This luxe brasserie – with steak, lobster, chicken and other fare from the Josper grill – “maintains high standards” although the odd fan feels that it’s “good, but has further to go”. (See also Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall).
Summary
This ultra-opulent seventeenth-century country house was reborn as a hotel in 2019 replete with pool, snow room and altitude training chamber. Its many eateries include a haute operation by former Ormer chef Shaun Rankin – and this tartan-clad, baronial-style brasserie, praised this year for its “amazing welcome and lovely food” (especially patisserie, if you put your trust in Jay Rayner’s otherwise slightly mixed 2022 review).
Summary
“A special place surrounded by manicured lawns and with a helicopter pad for departure” – this very plush Yorkshire five star also has a brasserie option to Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall (see also), that is uniformly well-rated in reports. (It almost didn’t pass the Jay Rayner test though, as – in February 2022 – he declared it “confused and asphyxiatingly expensive” for what it is, with “exhaustingly fussy presentation”; he did, though, admit to encountering “some of the very best examples of detailed patisserie work it has been my pleasure to experience in a long time”).
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Fletchers at Grantley Hall Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A lovely place, the food is good, not earth shattering, but to a very decent standard. Wine list at lunch was limited. Service was very good and lovely sit outside the wonderful building on a sunny summers day. Will be back to try Rankin."
