Harden's says

The Pig Hotel company snapped up the Grade II-listed Harlyn House near Padstow to add to their growing collection of hotels. Harlyn House was on the market for only the third time since the 15th century, and has 38 rooms and stunning sea views.

The “stunning location” of a 15th-century manor house near Padstow ensures this Cornwall venue is among the most popular in Robin Hutson’s shabby-chic Pig hotel group, helped by its “wood-paneled dining room oozing history, with friendly and helpful staff and great food” – including vegetables grown in the 200-year-old kitchen garden along with fish and seafood sourced nearby. There’s also the ‘Lobster Hut’, a “slick indoor/outdoor restaurant”, serving “reliable food” under canvas.

“Just excellent”“laid-back yet friendly service combined with good food ticks all the boxes” at this “buzzy” Cornish operation, this year’s highest-scoring member of Robin Hutson’s shabby-chic Pig hotel group. Chef Adam Bristow’s “delicious, locally sourced menu at a great price” avoids some the inconsistencies that mar the food offering at sister Pigs, while the “great old building” – a substantial fifteenth-century house with decor inspired by Wolf Hall – and “great surroundings” with Padstow and Rock close by, complete the appeal.

A “blooming lovely” addition to The Pig’s growing empire (launched in 2020), and set in a fifteenth-century house offering “gorgeous views across to the sea” in the namesake bay. A series of intimate dining spaces play host to chef Adam Bristow’s “fantastic” food (including a ‘25-mile menu’ strong on foraging, and “fantastic” fishy fare). All in all, it’s a “real treat” (if “not cheap”).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
