Set in a parade of shops, Deepinder Sondhi’s subcontinental (with smarter dining room upstairs) is a fixture in these parts for its high-quality cooking, including some more adventurous dishes (think chocolate samosas, or chicken tikka with Laphroaig masala). If you wish, you can kick things off in style in the cocktail bar.

“This great local up-market Indian” from chef and co-owner Deepinder Sondhi has earned a strong following in London’s southwest suburbs over 15 years for “great specials” and “interesting regional dishes”, which avoid the cliché of serving “protein added to standard sauces”. It also has a “top-class cocktail bar”.

“Always excellent and changing regional Indian cooking” gives an “innovative” edge to this modern outfit on Kingston Hill. Almost 15 years after opening, chef and co-owner Deepinder Sondhi keeps the menu fresh with monthly excursions into the less well-known cuisines of the sub-continent. Eat near the atmospheric bar downstairs, or in the more formal dining room upstairs.

“The food is delicious” at chef-partner Deepinder Sondhi’s “superb, modern fusion-Indian”, which opened in 2008 on Kingston Hill. “Some say upstairs is better but I disagree – far better being near the bar for lush cocktails with Bollywood classics playing in the background”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
