Scheduled to open in early 2025 in the Victoria Gate rooftop site vacated by Issho (RIP), the new venture from hit South Indian outfit Tharavadu is expected to follow the same Karalan small-plates theme, but on a larger scale with up to 300 guests at a time.

Our reviews are based on an annual survey of ordinary diners which runs in Spring each year. But this establishment has not yet gathered enough feedback for our editors to write it up.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Highly recommend the following Cocktails: white lady, coconut water with him, mango Margherita. Starters: Masala cauliflower, chopped squid masala, lamb pepper fry. Mains Cheemen curry ( tilapia curry) Chicken curry ( grandma recipe) Beef and mushroom curry. Kerala paratha is a must. Perfectly situated for John Lewis shoppers in Leeds. Great views. Would highly recommend"

"My family and I have been loyal patrons of Tharavadu restaurant in Leeds for years. "Tharavadu" means ancestral home in Malayalam, the language of Keralites. For us, who are originally from Kerala, it truly feels like a Tharavadu of Kerala cuisine. I have witnessed their incredible journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most successful South Indian restaurants in the city. The dedication of their team—chefs, senior management, and service staff—is exemplary. When I learned that their sister concern, "Uyare," had begun its Kerala culinary journey, I knew I had to experience it firsthand. "Uyare" means height or peak in Malayalam, and after dining there, I can confidently say it lives up to its name. The ambience is excellent, and the staff are professional, pleasant, and welcoming. As a food enthusiast with a deep appreciation for Kerala flavors, I was eager to try their traditional dishes. The starters, Kalathappam (a pancake with rich Mid-Travancore culinary history), and the Kerala chicken curry were exceptional—each dish capturing the essence of Kerala cuisine. I wanted to describe each dish in detail, but the experience was truly beyond words. If Tharavadu is the home of Kerala cuisine in Leeds, Uyare takes you to new heights of Kerala’s culinary excellence. My sincere wishes for Uyare’s success, and I will definitely be joining their food journey again."

"First of all, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Tharavadu team for bringing us another incredible restaurant in Leeds. The food was absolutely amazing—just as I’ve come to expect from your team since the opening of Tharavadu. I’ve been a loyal customer from the start, and it’s always a consistently great experience. When I visited Uyare, I was delighted to find the food not only delicious but also refreshingly different. The warm, friendly, and professional service from your staff added a special touch to the evening. Hats off to the whole team—I’m truly happy and my expectations were fully met. Looking forward to many more visits!"
