“Honest, hearty food which never disappoints” is on the menu at this “much beloved” outfit from “lovely people” – chef Stu Myers and his wife Jo – who have earned an enviable reputation in 12 years since taking over a tiny sandwich shop in Mabgate called the ‘Greedy Pig Kitchen’ (hence the name). Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, they are scheduled to transfer to larger premises in suburban Headingley where they can expand their gastronomic horizons (but this location is already responsible for some reporters‘ best meal of the year in our annual diners’ poll).

The “personal service” at Stuart & Jo Myers’ “fantastic small restaurant” in Mabgate – which they opened twelve years ago as a café called the ‘Greedy Pig Kitchen’ – is “the very definition of hospitality”. “The unconventional cooking is great”, too (including winning cakes). “It’s a 140-mile round trip for us but sooo worth it!”

“Perfectly executed and well-priced” dishes, including some “great puddings”, win the seal of approval for this sharing-plates venue. “Mabgate is starting to become a very cool neighbourhood – due in no small part to the Swine”. Top Tip – “those beef-fat buns!”

“Simple dishes, cooked brilliantly” win the thumbs-up for this sharing-plates operation, across the road from Lovell Park. “Really nice… especially the beef fat buns at lunch! Book ahead or they’ll be gone…”

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
