Harden's survey result
Summary
This family-run spot delivers “beautifully cooked” home-style dishes from Shandong, including their signature “lovely crispy dumplings for starters” and dan dan noodles. “We used to go here when it was Hansas (RIP), so it’s great to find that Wen’s Chinese restaurant also produces good-quality, authentic dishes”.
Summary
It’s no mean feat to follow on from the legendary Gujarati venue Hansa's, the longtime occupant of this site – chef Hansa Dhabi having having retired to focus on her cookery school in 2019 – but this two-year-old venture seems to be making a pretty good stab at it, with raves from Jay Rayner amongst others. Owners the Wen family hail from Shandong, but the menu also nods towards Sichuan, with matriarch Mrs Wen personally overseeing the dumplings and xiao long bao – and by early reports they amount to some of the “best Chinese food in Leeds”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
