Harden's says

The London-based group, the most successful of Britain's modern steakhouses, has now brought its carnivorous delights to Liverpool's Grade II listed India Buildings, backed up with a selection of fresh seafood.

Entering its second year of operation, The Pool’s outpost of this famous steakhouse chain occupies the elegant, listed India Buildings and expresses much of the DNA of its stablemates, with “good food, especially the steaks, very good cocktails and friendly and efficient service”. “It’s very dear for Liverpool” though, perhaps explaining why feedback overall is somewhat muted.

Occupying the Grade II-listed India Buildings, this Scouse outpost of the famous steakhouse chain “is an amazing venue, and the Hawksmoor team have kept the interior design true to the original decor, with a period Liverpool/New York vibe”. Launched in November 2022, its sustainable steaks and seafood have not wowed quite as much as its older Manchester sibling did on launch: “the staff are lovely and it’s a smooth operation, with good cocktails too; but the main meal didn’t quite match the hype. Even so, it’s early days for the ever growing Hawksmoor empire!”

In the Grade II-listed India Buildings, on the corner of Brunswick Street and Fenwick Street, Will Beckett and Huw Gott’s steak (and nowadays seafood) phenomenon will add the city to its list of outposts, with an opening towards the end of 2022. If it can replicate the success of the Manchester debut a few years ago, this will be one of the most exciting things to happen to ‘The Pool’ in years.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Good steak and everything that goes with it. Expect to take out a small mortgage to cover the bill."
