Harden's says

Tel Aviv comes to Dalston at Oden Oren’s autumn 2019 venture, which he opened (just off Kingsland High Street) after a series of well-reviewed pop-ups and residencies. It’s a small place (about 30 seats) serving modern Israeli and east Mediterranean dishes, alongside wine recommendations from Zeren Wilson. It’s not had much in the way of press reviews, but vibes online are very upbeat.

“An interesting menu with excellent cooking” wins fans for Oden Oren’s small Eastern Mediterranean bistro in Dalston, although some reports argue that “he needs to do something about the acoustics”. Since 2023, he’s also run a deli near London Fields.

“Lovely and adventurous”, Tel Aviv-style small plates “zinging with flavour” draw a busy crowd to Israeli chef Oden Oren’s 30-seater in Dalston – an immediate hit from its opening in 2019. It’s a “charming” place, but there’s one catch: “it’s hard to hear your companions over the din”. A spin-off deli opened at Broadway Market in early 2023.

“I just love Oren’s food”, say the many fans of chef Oden Oren’s simple 30-seater in Dalston, which catapulted into the front rank of new-wave Middle Eastern venues when it opened three years ago. The modern Israeli and eastern Med small plates, along with wines recommended by Zeren Wilson, “never disappoint”. Top Tip – “pollock pastrami is really memorable”.

Tel Aviv comes to Dalston at Oden Oren’s autumn 2019 venture, which he opened – just off Kingsland High Street – after a series of well-reviewed pop-ups and residencies. It’s simple and small (about 30 seats), serving modern Israeli and east Mediterranean small plates, alongside wine recommendations from Zeren Wilson. Our diners’ early reports go from upbeat (“a wide range of good, if salty, dishes”) to ecstatic (“the best Middle Eastern food in London, hands down!”). The latter view was echoed by The Sunday Times’s Marina O’Loughlin in August 2021 (“the fierce intensity… the immediacy… the shimmering beauty… exhilarating!”) [Wow,can I have what she’s having? Ed]

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
