“What a find! Chef Yuma (Hashemi) produces the most amazing plates of delicious food which reflect his heritage and upbringing” at this quirky Clerkenwell operation, whose decor is akin to a retro Tehran living room. The menu plays out in ‘four acts’, with shifts of gear in the background music to enhance the experience. All this plus “great staff and a fabulous vibe”.

There’s a host of no-choice, multi-course meals at this unusual Clerkenwell venture, where charismatic chef, Yuma Hashemi, showcases his Persian cuisine in a “fabulous room, set up like an affluent Tehran dining room c.1970”. “The quality of the food is superb”, and “the personal attention makes one feel as if eating at a friend’s home – nothing commercial”. There are “two mild flaws, though – 1) it’s expensive for what it is; and 2) it’s quite reliant on bread and rice”.

“Completely unique and hugely enjoyable” – Yuma Hashemi offers modern European cuisine from a tasting menu of his choice (for £85 or £135 at the chef’s table) at this Clerkenwell three-year-old. Except on Sundays, when there’s a traditional Persian feasting menu that celebrates his heritage.

Chef Yuma Hashemi presides over an open kitchen – combining contemporary European small plates with influences from his boyhood in Iran – at this unusual Clerkenwell yearling. In the evenings, you choose from either a short (five-course) tasting menu or a long seven-course one. Sundays are given over to traditional Persian feasting, which fans suggest is the biggest draw here: “a meal to remember, with beautiful flavours and textures”: “tahdig (the caramelised crust at the bottom of a pot of rice) was a thing of utter beauty”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
