Harden's says

On the site of Red Rooster (RIP) within the The Curtain Hotel (RIP), comes this summer 2021 newcomer within the newly opened Mondrian Shoreditch. Whether the name chef, Andalusian Dani Garcia, will spend much time here we don’t know, but he already has Bibos in Madrid, Marbella, Cádiz, and Doha, so maybe not. Some of his signature dishes will be on the menu (for example oxtail ravioli) alongside international hotel staples.

Star chef Dani Garcia opened his first UK venture in Shoreditch’s Mondrian Hotel a couple of years ago, to mixed reviews. This up-and-down sentiment continues in feedback to date – some reporters think the Spanish cuisine – paellas, roast and grilled fish and meat, tapas – is “very good” (but encountered “an empty room on a Sunday lunch”); other well-travelled types thought it “underwhelming compared to the wonders of his native Andalusian restaurants”.

Bibos in Madrid, Marbella, Cádiz and Doha have pre-dated this latest opening for celeb Andalusian chef Dani Garcia, within the newly opened Mondrian Shoreditch (on the site of Red Rooster, RIP). Perhaps because of the drubbings it’s received from press reviewers, not very many reporters visited. One or two that did found it “all-round exceptional”, but others were “fairly underwhelmed, first by the lengthy explanation of the tapas, and then by the pretty pedestrian-for-the-money food”.

On the site of Red Rooster (RIP) within the The Curtain Hotel (RIP), comes this 120-seat August 2021 newcomer within the newly opened Mondrian Shoreditch, decked out in rural Spanish style (and including a ‘Spanish Courtyard’ seating 20). Whether the name chef, Andalusian Dani Garcia, will spend much time here we don’t know, but he already has Bibos in Madrid, Marbella, Cádiz and Doha, so maybe not. Some of his signature dishes will be on the menu (for example, oxtail ravioli) alongside international hotel staples.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
