“There are so few dining choices near the Barbican, it’s worth knowing that you can get decent sushi and other obvious Japanese options here at Pham”, a short walk away; which particularly benefits from “fast and attentive” service. Some critics, though, feel that “evening visits without an expense account cannot justify the prices here”. There’s also a caution that “you should skip the house specials and stick to the simpler choices” as “several of the fancier options seem excessively performative”.

“Handily close to the Barbican”, this Japanese venue provides “quick and friendly service” and fans say the food is “always very, very good,” too, from a “varied menu”. Not all reports were as stellar this year, though.

This modest Japanese venue near the Barbican scores consistently high ratings for its “very very good” sushi and other specialities, at what are “quite reasonable” prices for the central location.

“Surprisingly great sushi” – among “the best in London” – is to be found at this “modest Japanese” near the Barbican. “I lived in Japan for 10 years, so I know good sushi when I have it”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
