With its “classic menu” of “pricey but good-quality” food, this “friendly” Italian occupies a former banking hall in the heart of the City, where it entertains senior money men and women. Luciano Pavarotti, the late ‘King of the High Cs’, was a guest at its 1996 opening.

“Somehow still relevant as a City lunch spot”, this “reliable” Italian in a converted banking hall is “really a canteen for senior people at Lloyd’s – but done in an excellent manner”, with “well-executed fare, quickly delivered”. The late, great Luciano Pavarotti declared it open in 1996.

A “great standby for a business lunch” – this stately but “buzzy” City Italian (declared open in 1996 by Luciano Pavarotti no less) is a well-known expense-accounter haven and wins solid all-round ratings for its “excellent” standards. “Smart and rather business-like” stalwart, near Leadenhall Market, that’s one of the City’s longer-established expense-account venues. Even those who feel that the experience is “all a bit ‘staged’” say it “nevertheless serves great Italian cuisine”; and reporters who feel that “after 20 years it’s a tad tired” still say that “it’s always a pleasant visit”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
