For a “romantic” evening, fans tip this permanently moored barge on the Regent’s Canal about 15 minutes walk north of Old Street tube. It’s consistently well-rated all round, including its modern bistro cuisine.

“So romantic!”: “down a hidden waterway alley” near Angel, this debut venture from brothers Lorcan and Fin Spiteri – sons of John Spiteri (Quo Vadis, Sessions Arts Club) and Melanie Arnold (Rochelle Canteen) – is by all accounts “a little oasis of beauty”. “Start the night with a cocktail on the jetty, then head down the stairs into a lovely converted barge with low-level lighting”, where “very impressive Italian-leaning food is achieved in a tiny kitchen”.

A real “find and well worth visiting” – this converted barge moored on the Regent’s Canal near Angel has a tight modern Franco-Italian menu from Lorcan Spiteri, who trained under Jeremy Lee at Quo Vadis. With the Studio Kitchen next door, it is the first venture from Lorcan and his brother Fin, who were born to the job – dad is restaurateur John Spiteri (St John, Quo Vadis, Sessions Arts Club), mother Melanie Arnold co-founded Rochelle Canteen.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
