“Busy at times, but still with a great vibe” – this converted Victorian factory in Dalston (opened in 2013) will be familiar to some as the location for the 2021 hit film ‘Boiling Point’; and wins acclaim for its grills and other modern British dishes. In June 2024, they launched a new two-floor spin-off in South Woodford: this time in a fine-looking Georgian building – a large site with 150 covers and a 50-seat outside terrace. It has a similarly flexible menu, with options for snacks, brunch, and Sunday lunch.

“Deservedly something of a local institution” – this industrial-style restaurant and grill “manages to provide a cut-above dining experience while retaining a low-key Hackney vibe” – making it the perfect location for the 2021 film Boiling Point, which was spun out into a BBC TV series in 2023.

This industrial-style space in Dalston, with an 11-metre Carrara marble bar, serves a “great range of well-prepared and presented” modern British dishes – notably char-grilled steaks. The business celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, and moved to its current site in 2016 – a “cavernous place” that made it an ideal location for the Bafta-nominated film Boiling Point, shot in one take on the day before the first national lockdown in March 2020.

“A menu that’s interesting without being pretentious, plus friendly staff and fun cocktails” underpins the appeal of this airy, industrial-ish venue, near Dalston station. Nice outside terrace, too.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
