Harden's survey result
Summary
This “cosy yet elegant” neighbourhood restaurant overlooking Newington Green serves a “delicious and inventive menu” from highly rated young chef Ben Marks, who has The Square, Noma and Claridges on his impressive CV. Ratings have slipped slightly this year, but all reports here say it’s a very good all-round experience.
Summary
“Absolutely exceptional” modern European cuisine is created by chef Ben Marks (ex-Noma and The Square) at his former pop-up overlooking Newington Green. There’s a “good-value tasting menu” (which incorporates a service charge), and an “excellent variety of dishes”, making best use of relatively modest rather than ‘luxury’ ingredients.
Summary
“More than the sum of its parts”, this stripped-down modern venue with picture windows overlooking Newington Green showcases the skills of chef Ben Marks, who wins impressively high ratings for his “short menu” of skillful dishes (including a tasting four-course option with bread for £59). Marks began working at the age of 13 and is a veteran of some of Europe’s leading restaurants, including Noma and Phil Howard’s late, lamented The Square in Mayfair.
Summary
“Intelligent, creative, modern British food from chef Ben Marks” is attracting widespread foodie attention at his “hip” three-year-old, whose huge picture windows overlook Newington Green. Still in his twenties, the Noma graduate wins praise for his “really great cooking and innovative thinking” – “you can really feel the kitchen’s sense of excitement at diners enjoying their delicious food”, and it’s “very rare to get a chef of this quality in the kitchen every night”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Perilla Restaurant Diner Reviews
"We went for a very expensive, for Perilla, meal on New Year’s Eve and were highly disappointed. Apart from the initial beef tartare with wild mushrooms, and even that was spoiled by being served on a hunk of rather oily bread, the whole meal generally lacked the zest one would expect from such a restaurant. The service was just too efficient giving us the impression that, as very early evening diners, they wanted us to finish our set menu and leave so that they could welcome the next sitting. "
