Summary
“Literally the size of a dinner plate”, the schnitzels at this tiled Stoke Newington two-year-old are “freshly made”, “tender & super-tasty”, and come with “great sides – especially the pickled cucumber salad”. The classics (veal, pork, chicken) take their cue from German-speaking central Europe, but the menu strays as far as Mexico and Japan to up the variety. A spin-off opened in Hoxton under the name Schnitzel Heaven in early 2023.

The humble schnitzel – a flattened cut of meat or fish, even cheese or mushrooms, covered in breadcrumbs and fried – is rescued from semi-oblivion and celebrated at this black-and-white-tiled Stoke Newington newbie that started life in 2020 as a delivery-only business that managed to achieve “remarkably crisp and fresh” results. There was not enough feedback for a rating this year, but longstanding schnitzel aficionado Jay Rayner was an instant convert, declaring it “the cornerstone of a blossoming high street chain with many outposts across the country. It just doesn’t quite know it yet.”
