The vintage styling – that of a classic European café – is at odds with ever-more über-sleek Coal Drops Yard. Reports on Anthony Demetre’s all-day operation (named for the vermouth which is a feature of its drink offering) are still few, but suggest its well-sourced tapas, charcuterie and more substantial fare (including steak) can make it a handy refuge, from breakfast onwards (for which there’s a dedicated selection).

A “top Negroni” is to be had at Anthony Demetre’s all-day bar/café in ever-more-happening Coal Drops Yard. We’ve had little feedback on the food this year, though – hence no rating – whose stated aim is to gather the best bar bites of Italy, France and Spain. More reports please.

“An exemplary range of vermouths” and “a very approachable style by the rather strained hipster standards of Coal Drops Yard” help win praise for Anthony Demetre’s all-day bar/café in the new development, where his stated aim is to ape the best points of his favourite bars in Italy, France and Spain; and where “the food is standard modern small plates fare, decently done”. The odd all-round disastrous report, however, somewhat takes the gloss off its ratings.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
