Harden's says
Opening a bakery seems to be what every restaurateur is up to these days... the team from Jolene are on the bandwagon, took over a former air conditioning shop to open a bakery and restaurant in September 2020; fka Big Jo Bakery.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Buzzy, hipstery joint” by Newington Green that’s “similar to the related Westerns Laundry”: “shared tables add to the fun” and it provides “very good casual dining” – “a mix of small and large plates”, and “with the same preference for natural wines (perhaps not universally successful, but they serve a decent range)”. The output from the in-house bakery is a feature and it only uses grains grown without chemicals. The odd report discerns a “slight tendency to ‘bistromathics’, where the bill surprises” and the charge for some small plates is a mite “cheeky”. Top Menu Tips – “excellent pizzetta, fab roasted leeks in sauce gribiche”.
Summary
From the same hipster-favourite stable as Primeur and Westerns Laundry, this eat-in artisan bakery between Finsbury Park and Holloway serves a small, simple menu from the blackboard as well as pâtisserie and brunchish fare from breakfast onwards. Feedback is relatively limited, but one Hornsey reporter feels it’s “worth crossing north London for”.
Summary
In September 2020, the Jolene (Primeur, Westerns Laundry) team opened a spin-off between Finsbury Park and Holloway: a sizeable eat-in café overlooking the street with floor-to-ceiling windows and serving pâtisserie, salads and a selection of pizza and pizza fritta (deep-fried calzone).
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Jolene Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Fun buzzy hipstery joint, excellent pizzetta, fab roasted leeks in sauce gribiche. shared tables or bar adds to the fun, similar to related Westerns Laundry. Same preference for natural wines, not for everyone or universally successful but decent range. All in all, good food and nice atmosphere. Slight tendency to "Bistromathics" where the bill slightly surprises...£3 for one and half slices o homemade bread feels cheeky."
