Harden's survey result
Summary
Set in the stunning Gothic Revival St Pancras Renaissance Hotel – and using the establishment’s original name – this ‘elevated brasserie’ opened in May 2023 to replace The Gilbert Scott (RIP) just as our survey was concluding. Consequently even though we did have one (upbeat) initial report, there’s too little feedback for a rating. But The Standard’s Jimi Famurewa was also a fan, admiring the amazing “double-height main room… gilded cornice work… vast textured mirrors” (but also noting a “slight stiltedness of atmosphere”). Its modern interpretation of classic French cuisine is under ex-Chiltern Fire House chef Patrick Powell: JF notes “light kitsch… impeccable details… intricate presentation” but “a potentially ruinous bill” (“prices… can take you whistling past the £100 a head mark without even really trying”).
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Midland Grand Dining Room Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A fine room which does need a critical mass of diners to avoid a slightly forlorn ambiance. Good cooking without scaling any heights: inexperienced service for us, with glimpses of polish in other staff members ."
"We had typical British Sunday lunch being served in this French restaurant. The roast dinner was good although the crispy roast potatoes had been sprinkled with too much salt. Also the roasted root vegetables usually served with this meal did not make an appearance. The vegetables were fine. Also they do not do a British bitter. London Pride in a bottle should not be beyond their reach at this expensive restaurant. All they had was lager. The Kronenburg was nice but it was probably brewed in France. The service was friendly and very good."
"For a birthday lunch party of 30 they did a great job. Service was young but very nicely done. Food was good all round, particularly the desserts. Such a lovely room too."
