Loyal locals endure the (sometimes lengthy) queue for this favourite Hampstead hang-out, thanks to its “very good coffee” and “top breakfast” (shakshuka something of a speciality).

For when caffeine withdrawal strikes, this sociable, cutely sited Hampstead haunt – with its heady brews and simple breakfast, eggs and sarnies options – scored impressively this year. Its beans are hand-roasted in small batches by Square Mile Coffee Roasters in East London, its milk comes from cows at Northiam dairy… and its customers come from all over north London!

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Cramped and often noisy eatery, serving British food with a touch of Middle Eastern flair, with excellent coffee and herbal teas. The breakfasts are very good too. "
