Breaking news

December 18, 2024:
The Tower Bridge Gunpowder now incorporates a morning bakery operation called Moi et Toi.
Open Monday to Sunday from 8am to 12pm, Moi et Toi Tower Bridge offer signature pastries, first introduced at Moi et Toi Notting Hill. The menu features Pistachio and chocolate escargot, Brown butter pecan tart and a Fig, walnut and Parma ham Danish, along with a daily section of seasonal sandwiches.

Each morning, guests will be welcomed by freshly baked goods, available for takeaway or dine-in, alongside Monmouth coffee. From 12pm onwards, the space transforms back into Gunpowder Tower Bridge for lunch and dinner. Moi et Toi will also create a series of desserts for Gunpowder, each highlighting one of the ten spices that make up the restaurant's signature spice blend. This 'Spice Series' will include bakes like Cardamom blueberry bakewell and a Nutmeg rum rice baba, available for lunch and dinner.

“Novel dishes full of spice and intrigue” draw a “buzzy” crowd to this “refreshingly innovative” and hugely successful modern Indian trio: an “elevated street-food experience that’s really good fun”. The “tiny but perfectly formed” Spitalfields original is “still the best”, say fans, but the food also hits the spot at “tapas-style” venues in Soho and Tower Bridge.

“Innovative small plates pack a flavour punch” (“the lamb chops are some of the most glorious things ever”) at this “buzzy if rather cramped” Indian street-food trio, with operations near Tower Bridge, and in Spitalfields and Soho. Top Tip – “good, if limited, pre-theatre menu. Virtually no choice but, with tasty and large portions costing £22 for two courses or £25 for three, excellent value”.

“Tops for combining punchy tastes and value”: this Indian street-food trio – in Spitalfields, near Tower Bridge, and – since late 2021 – now in Soho too – offers a “distinct” and “modern spin” on Indian cuisine. Although the plates are small, “it’s amazing how they deliver such big flavours”.

“Brilliant Indian cuisine with an experimental flare”“glorious morsels of street-style foods” on “tapas-style” small plates – has earned all-but-universal praise for this popular duo, first in Spitalfields and more recently on the South Bank near Tower Bridge (“handy before or after the Bridge Theatre”). Now their signature “tender lamb cutlets” and Kowari soft-shell crab can be sampled at a high-profile new venue in Soho’s Greek Street, opened in late 2021. “You always over-order because everything sounds so good!”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
