Long-standing tapas bar in a tiny converted pub near Southwark tube that’s “great fun and like being in Spain” – tucked away in a backstreet, it is handily close to the South Bank’s arts venues, including Tate Modern, the Old Vic and the National Theatre.

“Very good-quality” tapas and a “nice, buzzy” atmosphere greet guests at this converted small backstreet pub near the South Bank, one of the longer-established Hispanic specialists in town. It’s a “favourite for a casual night out” and “conveniently located for the NT, Young Vic, Tate Mod and so on”.

This old Southwark pub “is not the smartest venue” but it’s a favourite near the South Bank and Young Vic. The unexpected find of good value, contemporary Spanish tapas is key to its popularity, but its highest rated asset is its “wonderful staff”.

This “charming, unpretentious neighbourhood tapas restaurant” in an old Southwark pub is a “good option near the South Bank and Young Vic theatre”. “The food is reliable if a little old-fashioned” and comes in “proper portions”. The place “can be noisy – the staff, however, are darlings!”. There’s “a private room for hire upstairs”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"An old favourite from the days I worked nearby, some 20 years ago. It feels unchanged with classic tapas, tasty and authentic, and much better than the ordinariness of the setting makes one to expect. Excellent service, with the boss always around to greet you and chat like he did all those years ago."
