Our reviews are based on an annual survey of ordinary diners which runs in Spring each year. But this establishment has not yet gathered enough feedback for our editors to write it up.

Do you think it deserves to be better known?

Write a quick review now using our restaurant diary service. That way it might catch our attention. Next survey, you can transfer your diary entry into our survey system. Everyone who contributes 5 or more reviews in our survey will qualify for a free guide.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Not your typical Chinese! It may also be known by an alternative name, Mr Charcoal, that sort of explains where it is coming from. Much of the food is either from a charcoal grill, or can be cooked by the diner at their table, but it is a world away from the more typical Turkish/Levantine BBQ restaurant. Beef, chicken wings and barbecued pork were all, for sure tasty. Knowledge of the menu would help, as it is set out on cooking styles. If you are keen on mainly vegetables then this is not your place - unless mushrooms are your thing. The senior waitress was keen we tried various things - a strong willed lady who proved difficult to argue with. There are a number of offal options, but our diners were not up for brave choices, so I contented myself with lamb's kidneys - but tongue, brain and aorta (!) are all on offer. Tea, and a fairly basic beer and a limited wine list is on offer. This is the type of place that I would be keen to try further, though I may have difficulty persuading my wife. Getting to know what there is should prove interesting, but I was left with the feeling that the place is really there for an ethnic community. ."
