“Interesting vintages, well introduced by the sommelier” helped win renewed praise this year for this slick, luxurious Belgravian (built around a central wine cage), which was also sometimes nominated for its “romantic” potential. However – as it approaches its 14th year – although its modern French cuisine was often favourably rated this year, there’s little of the excitement in feedback that once distinguished it as one of the flagships of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant portfolio.

“Interesting and eclectic wine” continues to live up to the name of Gordon Ramsay’s luxurious Belgravian (which is built around a large central wine cage), but its performance this year slipped well below its historic trend: no top meals of the year were reported and instead a big proportion of disappointments. It doesn’t help that prices are “ridiculous” and that there’s sometimes “no atmosphere”.

“So delicate, so refined and so delicious” – the “elegant” cuisine at Gordon Ramsay’s luxurious Belgravian has proved commendably consistent over the years, and its “wine offering has something to tempt even those most well-trained palates”. Thus, it remains one of the brighter spots in GR’s ever-more middling restaurant empire. On the downside, although the room itself is “swanky – with a huge wine cage in the centre of the space” – its atmosphere can fail to ignite. And then of course there’s the “ridiculous bill”. For most folks, though? “First class!”

“An impressive wine vault in the middle of the dining room” provides a talking-point at Gordon Ramsay’s “beautiful” and “romantic” (luxuriously anodyne) Belgravian, whose capacious wine list is one of its defining features. Russell Bateman joined as chef in mid-2018, and, according to most reports, his “fabulous” modern cuisine “ticks every box” to contribute to a “fabulous all-round experience”. Ratings slid here a bit this year, though, due to concerns about value: “it’s good, but so painful on the wallet”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
