Harden's says
Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, New York, Miami… finally – having been first announced in 2017 – as of September 2021, London now has its very own outpost for the globe-trotting brand of Nusret Gökçe’s (aka Salt Bae’s) social media sensation. He is The Park Tower hotel’s answer to breathing life into the formerly deathly dull-looking space that was for many years the accomplished but un-Instagram-friendly One-O-One (RIP). A butcher-turned-chef, this is not first choice for vegans, with a menu extending to every variety of chop, burger and steak.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Extremely disappointing all around, especially considering the price”… and that’s the most favourable feedback this year! – the infamous Knightsbridge outpost of Nusret Gökçe’s (Salt Bae) global empire (at the foot of a hotel near Harrods), whose famously pricey menu for prime cuts (including a Giant Tomahawk steak for £630 or baklava coated in 24-carat gold for £50) continues to inspire limited and poor feedback in our annual diners’ poll. But, it still dishes up easy meat for the tabloids, with numerous 2024 stories (e.g. June 2024 in The Daily Mail: “I flew to Turkey to eat at Salt Bae’s restaurant – because the flight and meal was less than the cheapest steak at his London venue”). To grab your own selfie, drop in for the relatively affordable set lunch, which prior to drinks and extras is £39 per person.
Summary
With the closure of Nusret Gökçe’s NYC branch, the vultures have started to gather around this Knightsbridge venture (‘Is Salt Bae’s empire beginning to crumble?’ – Daily Mail, June 2023). The outlook is not super-positive. Our review last year suggested it was “suitable only for chavs and vulgarians” and our volume of reports this year was significantly reduced; while in summer 2023, the venue was close to being London’s lowest-ranking restaurant on TripAdvisor (quite an achievement!). In a sign that suggests management also think change is needed, in July 2023 they cut prices with the introduction of a set lunch menu from £39 per person and burger and fries for ‘just’ £45.
Summary
“Suitable only for chavs and vulgarians” – social media hyperstar, Nusret Gökçe’s “ludicrous” Knightsbridge outpost of his global steakhouse chain takes nothing but stiff flak in our annual diners’ poll for its “grotesque” or even “filthy” pricing. Fair-minded reporters feel that “the steaks and dishes are good, however not at those prices! (which are much cheaper in Istanbul!”). Less forgiving ones say that “either Salt Bae is a pompous twat or just taking the piss out of morons with more money than sense!” (Whatever you feel, it’s not a bad business model, posting £2m of profit in its first four months of operation.)

A butcher-turned-chef, this is not first choice for vegans, with a menu extending to every variety of chop, burger and steak (some gold-plated for maximum conspicuous consumption). Early press feedback has not been kind. Despite eating a ‘shockingly good’ steak, Jimi Famurewa for The Standard branded it as ‘wasteful masochism’ to visit a ‘vibeless business lounge’ that’s ‘really quite boring’ given the ‘gleeful robbery of the prices’ – not least the menu’s ‘pointlessly gilded items (not just an £830 version of the notorious tomahawk but a £50 cappuccino).’
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
