Converted from a Victorian laundry by Brixton Market – this “friendly local with tasty small plates, an appropriate wine list and the bustle of Brixton life” has a distinctly Antipodean flavour – owner Melanie Brown founded the New Zealand and Australian Cellars, while exec chef Samantha Harvey hails from Sydney. It has a “great outdoor space for lunch”, too.

“A great place to have in the neighbourhood” – this “lovely” Antipodean-run fixture is set – with its own sizable outside terrace – in a large and characterful Victorian laundry; and “sitting next to Brixton Market means it always has a lively vibe with some added street theatre”. “Lots of cocktails are enjoyed at the weekends here”, when it’s a favourite destination. But “it works for brunch, lunch or dinner” with an all-day menu incorporating a good selection of modern bistro dishes alongside more breakfast-ish staples.

This “impressive” three-year-old in Brixton is set in a handsome converted Victorian laundry. The first venture of Melanie Brown (a former chef and founder of the New Zealand and Australian Cellar wine businesses), it wins consistent ratings across the board for its “good food, great service and buzzy atmosphere”.

This two-year-old all-day restaurant and wine shop occupies a “lovely conversion of an Edwardian laundry” in Brixton. “The terrace is fantastic” and “the food is good – bavette steak & chips for £17 is pretty good value these days”. It’s the first restaurant from Melanie Brown, a former chef and wine buyer for Kiwi star Peter Gordon who went on to found the New Zealand and Australian Cellar wine businesses.

"Service was very good. Waiter immediately replaced filtered water when finished. Pasta was heavy- dough too thick, too much lemon and strange after taste- and swimming in butter. Prawn curry came With no rice (and none avail as a side) business lunch - other diners ordering nice looking drinks."
